Costura / Sewing
La costura es unir telas usando aguja e hilo. Sirve para hacer, arreglar o decorar ropa y otros objetos de tela.
Sewing is joining fabrics using a needle and thread. It is used to make, fix, or decorate clothes and fabric items.

Aguja / Needle
La aguja es una herramienta delgada que pasa el hilo por la tela. Tiene una punta y un ojito.
A needle is a thin tool used to pass thread through fabric. It has a point and an eye.

Hilo / Thread
El hilo es lo que une las telas cuando cosemos. Puede ser de diferentes colores.
Thread is what holds the fabric together when sewing. It comes in many colors.

Tela / Fabric
La tela es el material que se cose. Puede ser suave o gruesa y de muchos colores.
Fabric is the material we sew. It can be soft or thick and comes in many colors.

Enhebrar la aguja / Threading the needle
Enhebrar la aguja es pasar el hilo por el ojito de la aguja para poder coser.
Threading the needle means putting the thread through the eye of the needle to start sewing.

Puntada / Stitch
La puntada es cada vez que la aguja entra y sale de la tela.
A stitch is each time the needle goes in and out of the fabric.

Hilván (puntada básica) / Basting stitch
El hilván es una puntada simple y larga que se usa para unir telas de forma temporera. Sirve como guía antes de coser definitivo.
The basting stitch is a simple, long stitch used to temporarily hold fabric together. It is a guide before final sewing.

Reglas Básicas de Costura
Basic Sewing Rules

1. Usar la aguja con cuidado.
Use the needle carefully.

2. No correr ni jugar con agujas o tijeras.
Do not run or play with needles or scissors.

3. Usar las tijeras solo para cortar tela.
Use scissors only to cut fabric.

4. Mantener los materiales ordenados.
Keep materials organized.

5. Seguir las instrucciones de la maestra.
Follow the teacher’s instructions.

6. Guardar los materiales al terminar.
Put away materials when finished.
